« Video: Documentary on "5 Pointz," Queens, NYC | Main | Obey - 1 » Tate Modern MuseumHolds Street Art ExhibitionIt's a bit of a surprise that the Tate Modern, the globally esteemed London art museum, has recently opened an exhibition of street art. But with the international explosion of street art in recent years, the countless number of books on the subject recently published, broader mainstream appeal and adoption of the aesthetic by a growing cadre of designers and the media, it should not be a surprise at all. The Tate is a massive sign of recognition of street art's place in the wider culture. The show has created space in its galleries (and fittingly on the exterior of the museum itself) for works by an international group of street artists. Two of our favorites, New York collective Faile and Brazilian brothers Os Gemeos, have work at the Tate exhibition, which runs until August 25. |
New in the online gallery... Renée Treml
These exceptional limited edition giclée canvas prints and original artworks are by Brisbane-based artist Renée Treml. Renée's artworks feature birds and animals that are in her local environment, and she is able to portray their individual characters so beautifully through her unique style and the use of different techniques.
For her mixed media paintings Renée creates collaged backgrounds using pages from retired books and handmade papers. She paints directly on top of the collage allowing some of the background to show through. “I enjoy the varied and often unexpected effects when the paints move on the uneven surfaces.”
The limited edition giclée canvas prints are of the highest quality and are a gorgeous size, making them perfect to hang in smaller spaces or in sets.
